01Start with the material and condition
A fabric sofa, a leather finish and a delicate upholstered chair should not be treated as interchangeable. Look for the manufacturer’s care label and share it with the team where available. Mention removable covers, loose cushions and any areas that already show wear, fading or damage.
The aim of the enquiry is to define appropriate care for the actual item. Include the number of seats or individual pieces and whether the sofa is in a home, office or hospitality setting. Frequent use, access and the time available before the seating is needed again can affect how the visit is arranged.
02Describe stains and previous cleaning
Point out the marks or odours you want assessed and, if known, what caused them and how long they have been present. Tell us about any spot cleaner, household product or earlier professional treatment used. This gives the team more useful information than a request to remove every stain.
Some changes in appearance are permanent damage rather than removable dirt. Fading, worn fibres and colour changes do not necessarily improve through cleaning. The team should review the material and condition before describing the expected result; complete stain removal is not guaranteed.
03Agree what the quotation covers
Confirm which items, seats and cushions are included, and whether separate pieces such as armchairs or ottomans need attention. Mention large corner sofas, restricted access and furniture that cannot be moved. If carpets or mattresses also need cleaning, list them separately for a combined quotation.
Cleaning, repair and reupholstery are different tasks. Do not assume a cleaning quote includes repairing seams, restoring colour or replacing damaged material. Ask about the proposed approach and the care instructions for the items covered before confirming the appointment.
04Prepare access to the seating
Arrange a clear route to the room and remove personal belongings from the seating area. Tell the team about delicate nearby surfaces and any building access requirements. Agree in advance whether cushions or movable pieces should be separated; follow the instructions provided for your furniture rather than preparing it using a generic checklist.
If the sofa is used by customers or staff, identify a suitable work window and an alternative seating arrangement. Mention children, pets or other access concerns when booking so the team can explain how to manage the space during the work.
05Drying and using the sofa again
Ask when the furniture can be used and what ventilation or other aftercare is needed for the method selected. Drying depends on the material, cleaning approach and room conditions, so a single time estimate does not suit every sofa. Plan the appointment with enough flexibility for the instructions supplied.
Review the condition with the team and keep the aftercare guidance. If a concern remains, describe the affected area and contact City Dreams for advice before trying another treatment. A clear record of the original marks and agreed scope makes any follow-up discussion more useful.
